During my internship at Luqo B.V I worked as a game designer and developer for their own gaming platform used in elementary school. Luqo is a small startup with 3 full-time employees that focuses on bringing interaction and cooperativity back into the education system. During my time at Luqo I worked on 4 games in total, 2 of those I created start to finish. I got the opportunity to work on a game at every stage, from brainstorming to final development.

What is Luqo?
Luqo is a game system with 4 buttons, which brings back communication and social skills into elementary education, which is quickly becoming a solo and digital experience. I think this digital age is badly affecting children in education and is really bad for the development of a child's social skills. Luqo aims to combine the digital age with communication and social skills with their innovative game system.
"Getallenrij"
In this game kids have to guess which number comes next in the row of numbers that is on the caterpillar. The levels scale in complexity to challenge the kids.
"Voorzetsels"
In this game kids have to guess the correct prepositions while using a chair as a reference. One of the kids has to portray the preposition in real-life, bringing a physical component to the game. This combination of real-life gameplay and serious gaming is new in the education system, and I am proud to say I created it from idea to functional game.
"Beurtenrace"
This tool is used to choose which kid will go first in class activities. It is a way to incorporate the system of Luqo as a useful and fun tool.
What lessons I took away from this internship
Before this experience I never worked for a “real” company before, only school and client work. It was really eye-opening to work in this kind of environment. I didn’t experience it to be as much of a difference as I expected. I did feel like my work had more impact, because it will actually be used as part of the national education. This made me even more motivated to deliver a great end-product that will actually help the target customers.
